God's
promise to us as sinners is eternal life through the Passover.
Romans
5:8 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we
were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Luke
22:14-15 "When the hour came,
Jesus and his apostle reclined at the table. And he said to them, "I have
eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer."
Christ
knew that the very next day he was going to suffer the most painful of deaths.
Why was he so eager to eat the feast of
the Passover with
his disciples?
Matthew
9:13 "But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy, not
sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
Jesus
Christ let us understand that his purpose for coming to this earth was to save
the sinners. In what way did he do so? By keeping the Passover, what was He eagerly awaiting to give his disciples?
Matthew
26:17-27 "So the disciples did
as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover...While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke
it and gave it to his disciples saying, "Take and eat this is my
body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying,
"Drink from it all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is
poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."
