You are right! we can receive eternal life!
To understand the history of the Israelites and the Passover, pls refer to Exodus 12:1~14. Here is summary: The Israelites were enslaved in Egypt for 430 years and they prayed eagerly to God that they may be freed. Jehovah God sent Moses to tell Pharoah to let his people go otherwise God would send plaques. In all God sent
10 plagues to Eqypt. Before the last plague, God sent Moses to tell the
Israelites to celebrate the Passover (first account/origination) of the
Passover.
The Passover was to be celebrated as God commanded them: take a one
year old perfect lamb, slaughter it on the fourteenth day of the first month
(January 14th, sacred year) at twilight or evening.
The blood was to be taken and put on the
top and sides of the door frames where they were and when God saw the blood it
was a sign that the Passover was kept. For those who kept the Passover, no
destruction came to them. However, for those who did not keep the Passover, the
10th plague, the plague of the first born male whether person or animal were
destroyed.
As a result for those who kept the Passover, they were able to
escape slavery and escape destruction. In obeying God's command of keeping thePassover, they had a good result. This account happened in the Old Testament
but what about the New Testament? Who commanded us to keep the Passover and
what was the result?
